HSW members meet for first time in 2024

Hydrogen South West (HSW) brought together members for the cluster’s first quarterly meeting of 2024 in Bristol on Thursday, 28 March.

For this meeting, hosted by Bristol Airport. This members' meeting focused on the early production and distributions projects for Hydrogen in the South West and the applications for Hydrogen in the land transport sectors, split between public sector transport, logistics and mobile/static plant.

There were presentations from Airbus Zero Avia, GKN Aerospace and Bristol Airport on key progress across engine, component and fuel innovations - including the role of fuel cells in aviation. The GW4 alliance, representing four key universities in the region (Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter) also updated members on the crucial work being done to further the skills agenda in this still nascent industry.

There were further presentations from a variety of members, including Baker Hughes, one of the world’s largest energy companies, industrial fluid system manufacturer Swagelok, and Seetru, who produce more than  half a million safety valves every year.

David Eccles CBE, Director of Hydrogen South West, said: “I was delighted to see so many of our members come together for the first time in what will undoubtedly be a big year for the hydrogen industry in the south west, as we push forward with a number of key projects. These meetings are so important for us to hear from other organisations committed to furthering the use of hydrogen as a fuel, and learning how we can best work together to make that a reality.”

HSW’s next quarterly meeting will be held in June.

By joining Hydrogen South West, organisations can forge connections with a broad spectrum of businesses and supporting partners. Membership provides exclusive access to valuable insights on industry-related policies and guidance, active participation in cutting-edge projects, and exclusive involvement in significant events.
