Businesses from across the region join Hydrogen South West for second members network event

More than 80 attendees from a range of industries came together in Bristol last week with the South West’s hydrogen cluster Hydrogen South West (HSW), to discuss the vital role businesses can play in developing the region’s hydrogen land transport ecosystem.

At the event, attendees had the chance to hear from a range of industry leaders on the role they are playing in developing hydrogen infrastructure. These included presentations from Hynamics (EDF Group) and Ryze Hydrogen on hydrogen production via hydrolysis and NanoSun, who detailed their work on mobile hydrogen refuelling technology, which will deliver fuel directly to hydrogen-powered equipment on–site. Also presenting were ULEMCo on dual fuel hydrogen technology and Bristol Smart Ports on mobile hydrogen refuelling by cracking ammonia.

HSW continued the discussion around the steps that need to be taken to assist the UK on their journey to meet Net Zero in a series of break-out groups. These covered public sector transport, logistics and mobile / static plant, with a particular focus on the UK Government’s targets for the phase out of traditional combustion engine vehicles, the first deadline of which is 2030 for new ICE vehicles <3.5t.

Following these break-out groups HSW formed three working groups covering these key areas. The groups have been set an objective to identify pilot projects which will develop the infrastructure required to meet those government deadlines. They will report back in September.

HSW Director, David Eccles CBE, said: “Our second quarterly members meeting was a huge success, and it was fantastic to see so many partners, members and other businesses coming together to discuss the pressing need to make hydrogen happen across the South West. Only by working together can we secure the funding, skills and research required to get this ecosystem up and running.

“I look forward to our next event in June when I hope to see even more attendees joining us to accelerate the change.”

Becoming a member of HSW provides organisations with a chance to connect with a wide range of businesses and supporting organisations, understand policy and guidance, participate in innovative projects and attending exclusive events.
